New Ink "Hatchery"

This is a followup to an ink I did about 2 years ago. The difference between this and the older one is that the other ink was done more free-handed, in terms of the faces. While in this one, I used four initial faces and traced those, copying them over and over again. Most of the time coming in and retouching the transfer anyway, beginning from the right side of the ink. Which is kind of interesting, the process made me think of "ascendancy" and genetics. I've decided that for the next one I'm going to pick the "best" face and just use it throughout the entire ink. I think that would possibly be for the better, since I'm not quite that happy with this result.

new inks " Remus III " & fatigue

For some time now, I have been suffering from a sort of fatigue when it comes to art-making. Of course I solider on, however some of the symptoms are reminiscent of those described by Luke on occasions. Ironically, I feel I have to push harder than ever. After all, I have been at this for 10 years. What comes to mind is the song by Blue Oyster Cult "Veterans of the Psychic Wars". The week of not drawing in Europe definitely did me some good, I hope. But the - I hope statement- is the sort of paranoia I have.

8 preliminary drawings for "The Twelve Caesars"

Tiberius

Caligula

Claudius

Nero

Galba

Vitellius
I started working on these in January, I'm obviously missing 4 more, they happen to be the later Caesars that are definitely not as iconic as the first bunch. Maybe it was just the time of the year, but I felt really bent out of shape (which lasted 3 mos). Listening to Pink Floyd's "The Wall" and Joy Division on vinyl didn't help. "The Twelve Caesars" by Suetonius is a really great book on ancient Rome, full of a lot of dark crazy shit. It was, also, in these preliminary drawings that I started drawing the human figure more as I do now. They were actually drawn, except for Augustus, in the order of the book. I think Caesar and Caligula being the first ones. Augustus was actually the last. I wanted them to in some way embody what I perceived, at the time, as human nature and it's relation to power, and maybe I still do. As I'm posting this I'm getting excited about the whole thing again. I'll probably try to finish up the other four drawings by the end of summer. After that I was planning to pick the top 3 and make them better.

"Man from Byss" prints available

I got to pick up four prints of one of my inks from Flip Switch Studios, in Connecticut. First off, I was really excited about the fact that Tru Shar wanted to take time from his busy schedule to make these four hand-made prints. They are definitely one of a kind, done in the old school method. Tru is an amazing artist so I was really honored by that. Anyway, so here they are people, for the pleasure of your ownership.

update

I just got off an 11hr shift at work. These are 2, of many, drawings I did at work. Talking about being brain-dead at the end of this experience- which is my job. Also, I updated and refreshed my website www.FourStrokeStudio.com and added an addition of a print store. I should have some more work coming up soon.
